Buyer’s Guide & Frequently Asked Questions
Which one will do okay in the wind or rain?
All of these tents offer some degree of waterproofing but many of them won’t do all that well in heavy rain. All of the Coleman tents stand out for overall waterproofing.
They also are the most wind-responsive and wind-resistant. The Core Equipment tents also do quite well in the wind and rain.
A rain fly is vital for camping in the rain. Many of these tents come with a rain fly but some do not.
The Coleman 8-Person Instant Tent, for example, doesn’t include a rain fly but you can buy one that will fit it from Coleman. The CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent is another option that does pretty well in the wind and rain.
What sort of heater can I use in a pop-up tent?
When camping, it’s important to consider safety above all else. Some heaters just won’t be safe to use in a tent. One good option is the Mr. Heater F215100 MH4B Little Buddy. This heater runs on liquid propane. You will need to be careful about proper ventilation when you use this in a tent.
Your very best bet for heating a tent is an electric heater.
But, of course, this only works when your camp area has electricity.
Most of these tents do have a special hole/flap for running an electrical cord out. The Pelonis HB211T is one good option for an electric heater suitable for in-tent use. If your campground does not offer electricity, you could always use a portable generator.
You would just have to make sure it is set up at a safe distance away from a tent. Many portable generators today are rather quiet so you wouldn’t have to worry too much about disturbing others nearby.
How easy are they to setup compared to a regular tent?
The difference between setting up a normal tent and setting up an instant tent is night and day. Setting up a tent can be a frustrating and time-intensive experience.
Instant and quick pitch tents, in contrast, are frustration-free and take minutes. Many of these tents can actually be fully set up in 30 seconds! Once you’ve used an instant or quick pitch tent, you’ll never want to go back to a regular tent. The difference is that striking. These tents can honestly make camping a significantly more enjoyable experience.
Have you ever used any of these tents? What did you think? Do you have a favorite instant tent that is missing from this list? Let me know in the comments! Feel free to ask any general tent or camping questions as well.
